Assistant  Language Teacher(ALT)学校紹介

Higashi High School is a great place for students and teachers alike.  It is located in a quiet area very near to a park and library, with many restaurants and a large grocery store where teachers can quickly take lunch, and where students often study after school.  Higashi High School has many very strong traditions, and we are very proud to offer many fine clubs to our students; we have Kyudo, Soccer, Baseball, Manga, English, Rugby, Tea Ceremony, Dance, Drama, Brass Band, and Light Music among many other Clubs.  Our school’s grounds are very spacious and well maintained.  We have a full-size soccer field, a basketball court, several tennis courts, and of course our Kyudojo.
We are committed to our students’ education.  Faculty members from each department spend a lot of time working individually with students who want to be more engaged with subjects they are interested in, or having trouble with.  It is not uncommon to see students attending special study sessions with teachers after classes have ended.  Our students are very kind, and our school is a very positive environment.
Our English Department is becoming increasingly more progressive to meet the international communication demands of the future.  We are enrolled in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, and we have a JET Program Assistant Language Teacher who regularly attends our English Communication classes, and is responsible for running the English Club while also actively participating in it.  Our current JET Program ALT is a former University Instructor from America, and a former semi-professional musician.  Aside from teaching, and heading the English Club, he can also be found in the Light Music Club—sometimes even performing songs with students at school events.  In addition to our JET ALT, other ALTs occasionally visit our English classes throughout the year.

ALTの自己紹介

Hi!  I’m Joe—Higashi High School’s current JET Program Assistant Language Teacher!
Higashi High School is a really fun place to be a teacher.  It might even be the best place to be a JET in Tokyo!  The kids are smart, kind, and silly people who love to laugh, but also take their education seriously.  Many of the students study hard and play hard—there is no better kind of student than that!  The administration, faculty and staff in the school are very supportive of each other, me, and of course they are supportive of the students.  There is a strong sense of community at Higashi High School, and it’s a great experience every day to be a part of that.
About my responsibilities, I run the English Club at Higashi High School, assist the Japanese teachers of English in whatever ways they want me to assist them, and I also design and team-teach the elective English conversation class for 3rd year students who want to push their English language abilities are far as they can before finishing High School.  I usually co-teach 21 lessons each week, which is pretty aggressive in comparison to what I’ve heard about the English programs at similarly ranked public schools in Tokyo.  We are doing our best at Higashi!
